Abstract

Efficient Urban mobility is a function of available transport infrastructural facilities such as roads. This study aims at examining the effect of road condition on transit mode choice of urban travelers in Ota town, Ogun State, Nigeria by assessing transit mode, road condition and established effects of road condition on transit modal choice of urban travelers. A sample of 0.2% of the estimated population of Ota was selected randomly from five traffic zones. Household survey was conducted using structured questionnaire, 350 questionnaire were distributed and retrieved. Data obtained from the survey was analysed using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23. Findings from the analysis revealed that 75.4% of the trips are made using public transport mode. The study concluded that there is a strong positive relationship between the condition of road facilities (sig. 0.000, F= 854.723at p =0.05) and choice of travel mode. The study therefore recommends development of road infrastructure development policy that will promote regular road construction and maintenance as well as ensuring increased private sector investment and financial participation in the road development in the study area.
