ON-STREET PARKING AND TRAFFIC CONGESTION AROUND KADUNA CENTRAL MARKET

Abstract

This study examined the challenges of on-street parking along Kaduna central market. The study used primary data as the major source of data. One hundred and ten questionnaire (110) were administered to respondents in the study area. Simple descriptive statistics such as tables and percentages were used for analysis. However, the study discovered that 45% of the congestion along the study area is caused by on-street parking and other economic activities going on along the route. It was recommended that bus stop for commercial motor and parking lots for private motors that are provided should be used by all vehicle operators in the study area. The study concluded that off-street parking spaces should be provided especially along those roads where there are concentrations of economic activities.
